The whole idea
Popular campgrounds sell out months ahead, but cancellations reappear every day, for a few minutes. CampFromTheCouch checks the official reservation systems around the clock and pings you the moment a site you want opens up. You book it on the official site like normal. We never book on your behalf, hold sites, or touch your park account. We're just the friend who happened to be refreshing the page at the right moment.
1 · Watch a campsite
Pick a park by name and tell us what you're after:
Exact dates: "Aug 14 & 15 at Mount Assiniboine."
Flexible window: "any 2 nights together between Aug 16 and 30."
Party & pads: 4 people on 2 pads only matches sites that fit.
Equipment: filter to sites that take your tent, van, or trailer.
Specific sites: watch just Magog Lake and Og Lake, ignore the rest.
Self-cleaning: watches retire themselves when the date arrives.
See everything as a list or a calendar, and edit any watch anytime.
2 · Or search by location
"What's open around here in the next week?" Search by location shows the closest parks with availability in the next 7 nights on a map. Use your current location or name any park or place. Great for a spur-of-the-moment trip.
Follow the parks you love to see their booking seasons on one calendar. When a park's reservations are about to open for the year, we ping you a week ahead, the night before, and the moment they go live, so you're ready when the whole season drops at once.
4 · Check booking levels
Before you commit a watch, check a park's booking level: the share of nights booked, plus a night-by-night calendar so you can see exactly where the gaps are. Open nights link straight to the official booking page; a full night you can start watching in one click.
Add friends and start a Planning Group: everyone marks the nights they can't make, says how big a pad they need and whether they'll share, and the group sees the nights you all overlap and how many sites that takes, then holds sites together when reservations open so nobody double-books. Add friends first, a quick two-way opt-in. Set your blackout dates once in Settings and they'll apply automatically to every group you're in, current or future.
6 · Chase more than campsites
Not after a campsite? We also watch the Mount Assiniboine Lodge helicopter shuttle: pick a flight and date, and we'll ping you the moment a seat opens, including cancellations on a sold-out flight.
Take it with you: install the app
CampFromTheCouch is a PWA: install it and it opens straight from your home screen, full-screen, one tap away, no app store.
Android & desktop (Chrome, Edge): tap Install in the address bar, or use the browser menu → "Install app" / "Add to Home screen".
iPhone & iPad: open this site in Safari (Chrome and Firefox on iOS can't install it), tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
iPhone alerts need the installed app. Web-push notifications only reach an iPhone once CampFromTheCouch is on your home screen (iOS 16.4+); Android and desktop get push right in the browser. Turn push on per device from Settings.
Prefer your own calendar? Subscribe your watches, group trips, and availability as a private, read-only feed (Google/Apple Calendar) from Settings.
How you're notified
Four ways to get pinged, any mix at once: Discord (point a watch at your own webhook), web push straight to your phone or laptop, ntfy (a free phone/desktop push app, no account needed), and email. Check whatever you want on a watch from Settings and we hit every one you pick. Leave a watch with nowhere to send it and we'll warn you, never quietly default it somewhere you didn't choose.
Enable push per device from Settings, with a "send test" button to confirm it works. Want Discord to @mention you directly when it posts? There's an account-wide toggle for that in Settings too. You get a ping for each site and date the moment it opens, and another if that same spot gets taken and opens again later.
On an iPhone, web push only works once the app is installed to your home screen (see above); Android and desktop get push right in the browser.
Polite by design
Identical watches share one check, checks are rate-limited with random jitter and per-site caps, and everything backs off automatically when a booking site has a bad day. Being a good neighbour to the park systems is a design rule here, not an afterthought, and it's why we grow by invite.
